If you’re looking for hot pot, especially wagyu hot pot or a place where you can enjoy a split hot pot even when dining alone, Yuán Tang Fine Hot Pot is one I genuinely recommend saving. Every set also comes with tempura, the portions are generous, and both the wagyu and seafood really deliver.
After coming back from Vancouver, this was my very first hot pot—and I couldn’t have picked better. I came with my family, and everyone left full and happy.

Location & Getting There

Yuán Tang Fine Hot Pot is located in Taipei’s Dong District, within walking distance from Zhongxiao Dunhua MRT Station. There are plenty of restaurants nearby, but Yuán Tang stands out with its focus on quality ingredients and a refined hot pot experience.

The interior is calm and understated, with comfortable spacing between tables that makes dining feel relaxed. Near the entrance, there’s a live seafood tank, where seafood is selected and prepared fresh. It adds an extra sense of trust in the freshness and makes the whole hot pot experience feel more intentional and enjoyable.

What we ordered

Set Menu Basics

Every set comes with vegetable, tempura and one side dish. The tempura is crispy but not heavy, with a light batter that doesn’t soak up oil. It’s refreshing and doesn’t interfere with the main hot pot at all.

For side dish, you can choose between white rice, wide glass noodles, or Sanuki udon. I picked white rice and glass noodles—the glass noodles absorb the broth incredibly well, whether it’s spicy or chicken-based. So fragrant.

Japanese Wagyu & Seafood Set★★★★★

The split hot pot comes in a mini, adorable personal size.
The mala broth includes a fried dough stick and focuses on aroma rather than intense heat. Mildly numbing, gently spicy, and very balanced. The dough stick is the highlight—it soaks up the broth and bursts with flavor in one bite.
The bonito kelp broth is clean and subtly sweet, perfect for wagyu and seafood without overpowering their natural flavors.

The Japanese wagyu (sirloin cap / shoulder) tastes naturally sweet, not greasy, with a fine texture that’s perfect after just a few seconds in the pot. The U.S. Prime beef (flat iron / short rib) has more chew and a stronger beefy aroma, giving a nice contrast to the wagyu.

The seafood platter includes live abalone (yes, you can actually see it moving), shrimp, squid, grouper, oysters, and clams.
The oysters deserve a special mention—plump, juicy, and completely free of any fishy taste. The fish is firm, the squid is sweet, and overall it’s a platter seafood lovers will really appreciate.

Spanish Iberico Pork Set★★★★★

The Golden Fish & Chicken Broth is rich and comforting on its own, and you can add extra collagen to adjust the thickness. It’s smooth and warming, not oily, leaving a gentle, pleasant finish in your mouth.

The Iberico pork jowl has a slightly crispy bite with great aroma. The Iberico pork shoulder is softer but still lightly crisp, flavorful without being greasy.

The Yilan cherry duck breast absorbs the broth beautifully and becomes sweeter as you chew. And the Taiwanese chicken thigh—extremely juicy and tender.

Self-Serve Ice Cream

The ice cream at the self-serve bar is rich and milky, not watery at all—just right as a final bite.

Overall, what stayed with me most was the fact that you can enjoy a split hot pot even when dining alone. The mini pot looks cute, but the flavors are serious. The mala broth is fragrant without being harsh, the dough stick soaks up all that goodness, the wagyu is clean and naturally sweet, the oysters are juicy, and the chicken in the broth is incredibly tender.
