When people ask me where to find Japanese udon in Bangkok, Thailand, GaGa Udon House is always one of the first places that comes to my mind. It’s not only about sticking to tradition, nor is it trying too hard to impress you with trendy fusion dishes. Instead, GaGa sits comfortably in between — rooted in classic Japanese udon, while quietly surprising you with creative combinations that actually work. Every dish feels thoughtful, well-balanced, and unmistakably very Japanese.

GaGa Udon House Location & Transportation

GaGa Udon House has two branches in Bangkok, and the one I visited is located in Phrom Phong. Not flashy, not touristy — the kind of place you usually hear about from a friend rather than stumble upon by accident.
GaGa Udon House Interior

The restaurant itself is small, but in a good way. It feels cozy and lived-in, almost like a neighborhood udon shop in Japan. Wooden tones, simple seating, no unnecessary decorations. It’s not a place designed for photos — it’s a place designed for eating well.
GaGa Udon House What We Ordered
GaGa Udon House Udon & Broth

GaGa takes their udon seriously. They use a special machine to make their noodles, ensuring every strand is exactly 3mm thick. The result is udon that’s chewy and firm at the same time, with a noticeable grain aroma. You really feel the texture — not soft, not mushy, but perfectly elastic.

Their broth is completely homemade, cooked for over 8 hours using high-quality natural ingredients like kelp, dried sardines, and dried katsuo sourced from Fukushima katsuo and Kyoto prefecture. The broth is clean, aromatic, and deeply savory without being heavy.

Even better, the kelp is reused afterward as a side dish — very thoughtful, very Japanese.

They offer everything from classic Japanese udon to more modern flavors like tan tan udon and shrimp cream udon, so whether you’re traditional or curious, there’s always something that fits.
Assorted Tempura (Shrimp x2 / Sand Borer / Pumpkin / Enoki / Eggplant / Carrot / Okra)

Japanese food always makes me think of tempura, and GaGa’s version did not disappoint. The batter was light, crisp, and not oily at all. You could still taste the natural sweetness of the vegetables and the texture of the seafood inside. This is the kind of tempura that feels clean and addictive, especially when paired with udon.
Beef Tendon Oden, Radish Oden, Chikuwa & Enoki Oden, Egg Oden

Another thing that comes to mind when thinking about Japanese comfort food is oden. GaGa’s oden is gently seasoned, letting the ingredients shine instead of overpowering them. The beef tendon was especially impressive — tender, soft, and full of flavor. Everything felt balanced and calm, like a fresh start for the meal.
Mentaiko Cheese Inari Sushi & Egg Mentaiko Inari Sushi

When talking about Japan, inari sushi is unavoidable — and these two deserve a spot on your order list. The sweetness of the inari skin, the slight spice of mentaiko, and the richness of cheese work beautifully together. The egg version adds a soft, comforting aroma that lingers after each bite.
Avocado Sashimi

I’ve heard the story that avocado dipped in soy sauce and wasabi tastes like salmon sashimi — I’ll leave that judgment to you. What I can say is that the avocado’s rich oiliness combines surprisingly well with soy sauce and wasabi, creating a smooth, umami-forward bite that feels indulgent yet simple.
Chikuwa Cheese Tempura

This dish came highly recommended by the staff — and now I understand why it’s his favorite. Crisp on the outside, soft and elastic inside, with melted cheese adding another layer of texture and flavor.
GaGa Tokusei Shrimp Cream Udon

This bowl was massive — genuinely bigger than my face — and the aroma hit immediately. Normally, I avoid creamy dishes because they can get greasy fast, but this one was completely different. Beneath the creaminess, there’s a clear ocean flavor that keeps it fresh and addictive. The udon absorbs the broth perfectly, so every bite carries that rich yet balanced taste. This was my absolute favorite dish of the night.
Tomato & Egg Curry Udon with Cheese (Beef)|Limited Edition

At first, I was a bit nervous about this one, afraid it might be too heavy. Instead, it turned out to be rich but surprisingly light. The tomato provides freshness, the cheese lifts the flavors, and everything stays well balanced. Bold yet comforting, without feeling overwhelming.
Mentaiko Grated Yam Bukkake (Cold Udon)

The combination of mentaiko and grated yam works beautifully. Slightly sweet, fresh, and perfect for hot weather. Adding tempura bits makes it even better. This is classic Japanese cold udon done right — refreshing, light, with just enough spice from the mentaiko.
Spicy Sesame Udon (Tan Tan Men)

If you’re familiar with tantanmen, this is the udon version you didn’t know you needed. The sesame flavor is rich but smooth, and the spice is mild and friendly rather than aggressive. For Taiwanese or Chinese diners, this one feels familiar yet refreshing. Very addictive.
Goji Berry Lemon Soda

This drink was recommended by the staff, and it turned out to be a great choice. The goji berries add a gentle sweetness that balances the lemon’s sourness, while the soda keeps everything light and refreshing — perfect for Bangkok’s heat.
Shiratama Matcha Ice Cream with Red Beans

A perfect ending. Strong matcha aroma, chewy shiratama, and classic red beans — everything works together exactly as it should.

GaGa Udon House delivers a truly Japanese udon experience in Bangkok, Thailand. From homemade noodles and carefully cooked broth to thoughtful side dishes and desserts, everything feels intentional and well executed. It’s not flashy, but it’s deeply satisfying — the kind of place you want to revisit, and bring friends to, again and again.
